Slow Motion Is Still Motion

I used to hate feeling stagnant.

Like nothing in my life was really changing. I’d sit and look out the window at the sky, the busy people driving reckless like they’re late to something important, birds looking for their next meal or just gliding like they don’t have a care in the world.

Everything always looked like it was moving.

Except me.

I felt like I was living in the same loop over and over. Same room. Same face in the mirror. Same thoughts. Nothing dramatic shifting. Just little things rising to the surface that nobody else could see.

But I realized something recently.

I have changed.

And it hit me in the most random but important way — criticism.

My mentor was talking to me about a makeup look I did. She said I did a good job, but I could’ve used a different color to make her face pop more. And instead of feeling embarrassed or defensive, I felt… free.

Like yes. Tell me.

Tell me what I could’ve done better. Tell me what to look for next time. Tell me how to elevate.

She said something that stuck with me: you have to think about who’s in your chair.

That did something to me.

Because it’s not just about doing makeup. It’s about awareness. It’s about intention. It’s about understanding that growth means being open. And I realized old me would’ve taken that personally. I would’ve replayed it in my head like I failed.

But this version of me?

I welcomed it.

That’s when I knew I’m growing as a woman.

Growth isn’t always loud. It’s not always a new face in the mirror or a huge life change. Sometimes it’s just the way you receive feedback. The way you handle correction. The way you don’t crumble when someone shows you how to improve.

Slow motion is still motion.

Even when it feels like nothing is happening, something is forming. Your mindset is shifting. Your ego is softening. Your standards are rising.

Maybe I’m not where I want to be yet.

But I’m not who I used to be either.

And that’s enough for now.
